Jewelry! Thin Gold Bands

For quite some time I've been looking for a thin gold band, something slight 

and simple. And for some reason it had become a bit of a challenge. 

And then one day I stumbled upon, what else? A fabulous Etsy Shop. 

Lucky for me Mary John makes the most gorgeous simple gold bands. I wanted

mine for my middle finger, just a tiniest hint of gold is all I was aiming for!

She also makes a bunch of other beautiful pieces that include

natural stones, that I think I might have to pick up next!

Bee Cottage Pantry

When Frances Schultz went about transforming her kitchen and butlers pantry she was able to start from scratch. Both rooms were taken down to the studs and rebuilt from there. You would never know it though. She was able to design the butlers pantry that has a wonderful 1920 feel to it. The charming glass front cupboards were saved and rehung in the new pantry. There are only upper cabinets in this space, with pull drawers below. The ceiling color is left over paint from the guest bedroom. Countertops are teak, with wood flooring adding warmth to the space as well. She does it again.We love this transformation of Bee Cottage by Frances Schultz. How many more rooms to go?

The Reveal: The Makeover of a Chair

We hope everyone had a wonderful Easter,

filled with lots of laughter and yummy candy!

It sure was nice to relax a little after a pretty crazy couple of weeks -

staging a photo shoot for a {feature} on AID, launching {Post + Grant} for my actual job job

and now I get to reveal to all of you my fabulous chair that you might remember from this {post}.

This chair has a new life! I love love love it. And as much as I would love to say that I did the reupholstery myself, that's where my DIY talents end. This gorgeous upholstery job was done by the wonderful Jorge of Jovinas Upholstery here in San Francisco. If you are local and need an upholster you have to call him up.

Want to live in this house? 4.21.2011 Addition

This gorgeous home, that is currently on the market, is on my radar as a house that I would love to live in!

Built in 1852 by Captain Andrew on the infamous Telegraph Hill in San Francisco, the home has an undeniable element of East Coast charm. That same charm is probably what drew me to the home. 

Not only is the exterior gorgeous but the inside is beautiful as well. With elements of exposed beams and amazing hard wood floors, I'd be happy to move in today! 

Loving the open shelving in this very understated kitchen. 

With a beautiful backyard with a garden, it's hard to beat in this city. I'm a sucker for any place to have outdoor dinner parties with a BBQ and a group of friends. 

I love the easy beauty this house has, the subtle elements really 

make the house a home. 

The views are spectacular, looking right onto the Embarcadero! 

Heavenly!

Sweet Dreams

Sweet summer dreams are to be had in these gorgeous bedrooms. With the project at the moment we have four  bedrooms to design and coordinate the colors of walls, linens, rugs, furniture, lighting, art work and mirrors. One of the most important aspects of picking colors for bedrooms, is that the house have a flow and rooms not be fighting each other. The hugely important factor in this house and any house we work in is the light. Is the room facing north, south,east or west? It is amazing to see how light can affect a color. We are working with a lot of yellows and creams in this project in an attempt to make rooms that face east and north cheery and sunny,something that can be difficult in northern New England. Now, the only problem with the colors we pick for the rooms facing north and east, if used in rooms that face south and west, the colors become way too strong and bold. Some of the colors we have picked so far are Hawthorne yellow HC-4 Benjamin Moore which is a very strong yellow that may need to be toned down. For the hallway which is dark and leads into the kitchen we are thinking colors like calming cream oc-105 and milky way oc-110. One of the upstairs bedrooms that faces east, we're considering a soft lovely lavender. Maybe a grass cloth wallpaper in the downstairs master with some hints of orange. This project is a challenge. Aren't they all, but oh so fun!

Cozy Cottage

 

This image reminds me of a small cottage on Nantucket...I would pick this room as mine for the summer! I love everything about it...the color green, the mirror above the bed and the chandelier! I just love the cozy look and feel of this room. My kind of bedroom. It looks like the panels on the left side of the bed are hidden storage too!

Kitchen Wall Dilemma

We are having a bit of a design dilemma on a kitchen project. So of course we have kitchens on the brain. One thing that is difficult with designing a space with the girls so far away is trying to explain the problem I am having with photos that really do not explain the problem very well. You see we have a very small galley kitchen that did not have room for the fridge, so I had a new floating wall built.  It has totally cut off the kitchen and all the wonderful light from the kitchen window. The only plus to the wall is it gives the kitchen area so much more room. With the problem at hand we thought it would  be fun to look at some beautiful inspirational kitchens. These kitchens of course have a great amount of room and are not galley. We think the half walls days are numbered. We are so sorry, but you just are not working.

Bedroom Fort

While I was looking through the pictures on the House Beautiful website, I came upon a recurring theme; gorgeous flowing canopy beds. I have such a love for these beds...you can check out my post last year on {canopy beds here}. These beds remind me of forts that my sisters and I used to make and it is like having your own fort in your bedroom! These however, are a lot more romantic, comfy and beautiful. When i used to make forts, they would be made from sheets, sofa cushions and whatever I could find that would allow me a few hours of solitude. I'm ready for a grown-up fort in my bedroom!

Spring Cleaning

With Spring comes the inevitable "Spring Cleaning". 

It's a great feeling to refresh the home. 

Each of us have our own way in which we create this annual ritual.

 For me, I like to keep it simple.

 I love switching out pillow covers and sheets for a light fresh feel.

This is the best cleaning product line out there. 

Not only do all the products work well but they all smell like heaven.

I am a true Basil Scent fan but am looking forward

to trying out the Rosemary!

Another important element of Spring Cleaning is 

refreshing your make-up stash! Although not the 

easiest on the old wallet, great alternatives like this brush set

from Target make it a little bit easier to do. We Cole Girls swear by

the Becca Ultimate Mascara -it's a warm water removal :) -
